Geoff Quartermaine Bastin (British/English) is an Agribusiness Specialist, Economist, and Engineer. He specializes in agriculture and agribusiness value chain development and market analysis, with over 35 years of professional work experience in Africa (North, East, and Sub-Saharan), Asia (including Af-Pak and the Far East), and the Middle East (including Iraq, UAE, and Yemen).
This experience includes work on food grains (wheat and rice), horticulture, and livestock. His most recent projects have been in Saudi Arabia (farm management planning and greenhouse design), Laos (livestock value chains and commercialization), Pakistan (livestock health), Afghanistan (saffron markets) and on food safety in the Philippines (Mindanao). In 2022, he is working with USAID on various agro-enterprises in the Solomon Islands.
GQB moved to Southeast Asia in 1990 as Regional Manager for Cargill Technical Services. After a period of consulting with the Asian Development Bank, he founded FoodWorks Company Limited in 2004. Other companies followed, and in 2018 the group established FoodWorks Holding UK Limited.
